Winter Miller’s play tells the story of Hawa, a Darfuri woman searching for safety during the genocide of 2003.The script has a challenging sequence in which the passing of three days must be conveyed to the audience without the aid of dialogue. It requires some creative staging, which director Nick Bowling accomplished through movement, projections, and music (the orchestral swells near the beginning of this suite).
In a few isolated moments of the play, Hawa directly addresses the audience with details of her life beyond her trauma. The “ambient” meditative music in this suite was written for those moments.
