“La Leona” is patterned after son huasteco which freely mixes duple and triple meter.  This has been scaled up to a mariachi style arrangement (Huapango de Mariachi).

 

This and other pieces I wrote for the show were used as music within the world of the play – i.e. music the characters could hear in the distance or on the radio.
