Director Julieanne Ehre adapted Gogol’s novella “The Nose” as well as “The Overcoat” into an evening of theater told with stylized movement and a small ensemble who played a number of different characters. The production was almost entirely underscored – I think it remains the longest score I’ve written for the stage, coming in around 40 minutes of music. The score was heavily influenced by the works of Stravinsky and Prokofiev. This is a reworking of one of my favorite pieces from that score with a more elaborate orchestration.
